I have always loved cartoons. As I child, my motivation to learn to read was primarily so that I could understand the "funny pages" (the only section of the daily newspaper which I actually read daily). While some of my work might strike you as serious, sometimes even dark in tone, there is another side of me that comes out on occasion, a lighter side which gravitates to the absurd and irreverent. Below are examples of random silliness which sometimes spills from my pen or brush...
"Copyright Issues"
"Art Appreciation"
This one is for all the animation artists out there who remember the days of weekly studio "drawing count" sheets.
Late Night Comedy
Doodling while talking on the phone... (yes, if you call me and try to talk to me on the phone, this is probably what I am sketching on the other end of the line while you think you have my attention.)
A Letter to my Mom
"Los Tres Amigos" during a coffee break at Rough Draft Studios (circa 2007)
"Narz" - a dear friend and co-worker at Fatcat Animation Studio
Self-Caricatures
Self-Taught Artist
Oye looks liok a pirate, aye? Yaaarrrhhh!!!"
Self-Caricature as a Snail
Karl Gnass, a great teacher and great artist who taught me much about the "spirit of the pose"
One of my favorite authors, Samuel Clemens (a.k.a. Mark Twain)
I confess, I did not create the Frog Bunny. The character was designed by animator Bob Spang for "The Drew Carey Green Screen Show". I only painted a gouache painting which the art director seemed to like at the time.
